Invitation is the final poem in Lynore's latest book, More Than a Backward Glance.
A celebration of hope, the poem is illustrated by Lynore's granddaughter Natalie Grover and includes images from throughout the book, and from throughout Lynore's childhood.
Invitation was read at the memorial service for Lynore's granddaughter, Eliza Lynore Banchoff Grover, on October 30, 2023.
"I wrote Daughter around 2005, after my six granddaughters had been born, and I experienced this passage of cells down through time as an eternal song."
Daughter appears in Lynore's 2009 book of poems, Past Tense and Parts of Speech on Beech Street.
Advisory is the opening poem from Lynore's first book, Past Tense and Parts of Speech on Beech Street, published in 2009. You will likely recognize that this poem was inspired by air travel, and the idea of relocation.
"It recalls in particular my return to California, where I was born, after many years of living and raising a family in Providence, Rhode Island."
Eliza on the Phone
"I was present at the birth of my granddaughter Eliza Lynore Banchoff Grover on July 27, 1999 - and was deeply honored to cut the cord releasing her into the world. Soon, I returned to my home in Rhode Island and connected with Eliza and her mother through telephone cords (and cell phones) wherever they were. Eventually I moved to be closer to Eliza and her sisters, and always cherished being a regular part of their lives as they grew up."
Apparition
Apparition was originally published in my first book of poetry, Past Tense and Parts of Speech on Beech Street.
It honors my beautiful friend Barbara, and our 42-year friendship. When I see blends of violet and autumn leaves in my garden, I will always think of her.
